Next to the canal de l'Ourcq, this little restaurant sits in a more quiet area than the canal Saint Martin on one side, or La Villette on the other, making it worth the 5 extra minutes of walking.
On sunny days they have a massive terrace just along the canal. Sitting outside is nice, but check out the interior too before picking your table. The counter vernished in red will immediately draw your attention, although it may appeal even more to your kids, since, during the weekend, they can draw on the front-side of the counter. The interior is very classic and elegant, with wooden tables and Baumann chairs from the 1960's. Thanks to the large windows on all sides it is always very bright.
The food is typical brasserie style. The dishes on the menu are quite simple, but they're prepared with care and creativity. The varied menu will please both meat lovers and vegetarians. Everything is home-made with fresh produce, and on Thursdays and Sundays the oranges for the orange juice come from the Joinville open air market a bit further down the street.
Les Bancs Publics is a local restaurant, where people of all age gather... and keep coming back. The staff is composed of a bunch of young bartenders, who make fun while working and share the good vibe with their customers.
